Student Division

All Student Division classes are taught with recognized methods designed to prepare our students for success in the performing arts. Placement in all Student Division classes is assessed by DSBPA faculty either during a class (for current students) or by private class assessment for new students that enroll after the first week of the academic year has passed.

We have many students who desire careers in other areas, and we believe that whatever field or endeavor students seek, it’s the preparedness, self-respect, respect for others, focus, open-mindedness, perseverance and sense of humor that come from successful training that are the keystones of all successful careers.

Concepts and Goals:

Ballet Level 1: Students begin to learn theory and vocabulary including positions of feet and arms, 8 points of the room, and body directions. Students begin to work on strengthening exercises specific to the demands of either/both pointe and tours en l’air.

Ballet Level 2: Students continue to build on previously learned theory and vocabulary while strengthening exercises specific to the demands of either/both pointe and tours en l’air.

Ballet Level 3: Students continue with learned theory and vocabulary while strengthening exercises specific to the demands of either/both pointe and tours en l’air.

Ballet Level 4: Students reinforce learned theory and vocabulary while continuing to strengthen and begin pointe work.

Ballet Level 5: Students reinforce learned theory and vocabulary while continuing to strengthen and continue with pointe work, classical variations and partnering.
